Aldi has recently started stocking Haysmith's Espresso Coffee Gin, and as someone who loves flavoured gin and coffee, I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
I usually opt for a fruity gin, so I was intrigued to see what the Aldi Haysmith’s Espresso Coffee Gin would be like. On first appearance, the bottle looks luxurious thanks to the elegant design of the label - it certainly looked pricier than £14.99.
The Espresso Coffee Gin is made from the “finest blend of coffee beans” from Columbia and Peru and is described as “velvety smooth”. I went into the taste test expecting a very strong, rather bitter coffee taste mixed with the juniper gin, but this wasn’t what I got.

When I first popped the cork and smelled the gin, I didn’t get a strong hit of coffee like I’d anticipated. However, once I poured the gin into the glass, added the tonic and ice, and swirled the drink around, it had a nice coffee aroma.
I took my first sip pretty much straight away, and I was disappointed that there wasn’t much coffee taste at all. However, after letting the gin and tonic infuse for 10 minutes or so, the flavour really improved and the texture was certainly “velvety smooth”.
The gin had a roasted coffee bean taste that I absolutely loved and it wasn’t at all bitter. I got a hint of cocoa bean, too, which I liked. Coffee enthusiasts may find the Aldi Haysmith’s Espresso Coffee Gin lacking in intense flavour, but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it.
I’d recommend letting the gin and tonic infuse for around 15 minutes before you drink it to ensure you get the full delicious but delicate flavour. You can buy the Haysmith’s Espresso Coffee Gin in Aldi stores now. It costs £14.99 for 70cl.
