I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! fans were left dubious after Matt Hancock was bitten by a scorpion in the camp ahead of competing in the fifth trial.
The West Suffolk MP was bitten by the creepy crawly as the day started in the Australian camp on Sunday evening’s episode.
The moment came as all of a sudden Mr Hancock told his co-stars his finger hurt and he thought he might have been bitten on his finger, before he spotted a scorpion.
Although Mr Hancock initially thought the pain might be a splinter, he soon spotted the scorpion among the logs he had been carrying.
Suddenly Mr Hancock said: “It hurts a lot and I’m feeling slightly dizzy.” Co-star Scarlette Douglas told the former Health Secretary to sit down as she added in the Bush Telegraph: “He looked like he wanted to cry.”
In the Bush Telegraph Boy George couldn’t hold back the laughter as he said: “How does that happen, of all the people that could get stung by a scorpion. I’m not laughing, I’m sure it was horrible but…”
However, ITV viewers at home were left suspicious the MP could be playing up the injury after he initially thought it was only a splinter.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "Matt acting like he got shot after realising it was a scorpion LMAO."
Another savagely wrote: "Matt Hancock deliberately getting stung by a scorpion to garner public sympathy."
A third viewer wrote: "matt after getting stung by the smallest scorpion to ever roam the earth," alongside a picture of a person howling in pain.
Another wrote: "Matt is really overplaying that scorpion bite."
Mr Hancock told the camp it was like ‘two times a bee sting’ ahead of departing for his House of Horrors Bushtucker Trial.
Arriving at the Trial clearing, Mr Hancock told hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly: “I’ve had quite a full on morning as I got stung by a scorpion. It was unbelievably painful.
“It still hurts! But they say the smaller scorpions they just hurt, they don’t kill you.”
As the MP geared up for his fifth trial in a row, Dec asked him why he thought the public kept on voting for him, to which he said: “It must be the facial expressions.”
