'I'm a bartender and I prioritise certain customers above others who are waiting'

A bartender has admitted to prioritising customers who tip him at least 10 per cent when the bar is crowded. TikTok user Roman Sparkles sparked a debate about the tipping culture in bars and nightclubs after sharing 'his truth' on the app.

In his video, he says: "When you don't tip, we tell the other bartenders so we don't go to you." But not only does he encourage customers to leave healthy tips, he laid out a guideline of the level of service they can expect when they do.

"If you tip 10 per cent, we will come to you. If you tip 20 per cent or more, we are going to make sure we get to you. If you tip more than 50 per cent, I will RKO (a wrestling move performed by Randy Orton) whoever is in front of you and make sure you get served."

Commenting on his video, one user said: "So this is why I get served extremely fast - I always tip 40 to 50 per cent."

Another user added: "I enjoy watching the bartenders skip over s*** tippers and come to me. I'm also in the industry and take care of my people."

A third user said: "Sounds about right. I know with the economy, I don’t even go out unless I know I have 30 per cent tip at least."

It comes after another bartender sparked a debate after making an example of a customer who expected to be served more alcohol in his drink simply because he asked for 'no ice'.

TikTok user Jemima June, who is known as @jemimajune_ online, racked up more than seven million views after reminding a customer that "no ice" doesn't equal more alcohol. In her video, the customer is heard asking for a tequila cranberry with no ice.

After being served his drink, he repeats "no ice", which Jemima responds "There's no ice in that. Do you want a double tequila cranberry?"

She told him: "Just because you say 'no ice' doesn't mean you're going to get more alcohol. Double means you're going to get more alcohol."

Despite keeping her cool throughout the conversation, she has been accused of being "rude" to the customer.

One user said: "I don't like ice on my drinks because I sip it and I don't like the ice melting and watering down my drink."

Another user added: "What if his throat hurts and that’s why he’s asking for no ice."

A third user said: "When you literally just don’t want your drink getting watery..."

However, others believe the bar tender did nothing wrong, saying they understand what the customer was trying to do in this situation.

One user said: "The people saying you have an attitude clearly have never worked in the industry! It happens constantly and these customers need to be lectured."

"The amount of times I’ve had to deal with this same situation. They really think no ice means more alcohol - not how that works", said another user.

One more user added: "I always use the line 'You got to pay a little more to get a little more'. It usually shuts them up."
