'I found a baby name I adore - but a popular Disney character ruined it for me'

If you love Disney films or have young children who do, you'll probably remember just how popular the 2021 film Encanto was when it was released - and how catchy the songs were.

And although the film was a huge success, it has left one mum-to-be considering changing the name she was going to give to her son, as the one she picked is the same as one of the film's major characters.

The mum explained she's loved the name Bruno for years, but ever since the release of Encanto, she no longer feels "comfortable" using it, because she's worried people will be tempted to sing one of the biggest earworms from the film, We Don't Talk About Bruno.

Bruno is a character from the 2021 film Encanto (Walt Disney Animation Studios)

In a post on Reddit, she said: "I think I know the answer to this question, but just want to check what the general public thinks. I'm due with a boy later this year and have loved the name Bruno since long before Encanto came out, but since that all-too-catchy song, my opinion on the name has changed.

"I still love it, but don't think I'd feel comfortable giving it to my kid quite yet, as it hasn't been long since the movie and I'm sure that's all anyone would think of. Thoughts and opinions?"

Commenters were quick to encourage the mum to use the name despite the catchy song, because although people may form that connection when they hear her son's name, it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

One person said: "If you love it go for it. Yes, that's a catchy great song but I don't see it as a bad connection to the name."

While another added: "The Encanto song is very popular with little kids in particular. I don't think that’s going away, but I still don't really think that necessarily makes it unusable. I think their fellow kids will think it's funny if anything.

"I don't think anybody would assume you're naming him for that, or at least they shouldn't. I think it's not too big of a deal, though the association will be there. I don't think it's ever going away."

And a third wrote: "I think Bruno is usable, but your child will frequently hear that song referenced. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if it was my top name, but if I had two or three top names, I may go a different direction because of it."

However, other people suggested she choose a different name if she wants to avoid the connotations, with some even claiming it sounded "like a dog name".
