'I asked boyfriend to be there when I gave birth instead of baby's dad - he's livid'

When you give birth it's a deeply personal decision who you want to join you in the delivery room. It's most common to have the baby's other parent, while some choose to have their parents or friends as support.

However, when one woman was going to give birth she decided she wanted her boyfriend in the room - not the baby's dad.

When the woman told the dad their son had arrived he was "livid" and said she had stolen "the only chance" he had to bond with him.

Explaining the situation on popular forum page Reddit, the woman explained that she was in labour for two days on her own, but then decided she needed some more support.

At this point the 29-year-old didn't tell her baby's father that she was in labour because she "knew how stressful it would be".

Instead, she asked her boyfriend to come, who was a "wonderful support" in labour. He was eventually joined by her mum, and after almost three days in labour she ended up having a c-section.

After being able to recover and sleep she let [the son's dad] know the baby had arrived, but he wasn't happy.

The anonymous woman explained: "He was livid. He refused to come to the hospital and meet his son because I 'stole the only chance to bond with him', and he called me a fake mother for having a c-section."

The mum also explained the dad had made various threats, including filing for full custody because she didn't name the child after him and put her own surname on the birth certificate.

She continued: "Bill still has not met his son but I have offered it many of times."

Her ex boyfriend's mum has also reached out wanting to have "one on one" time with the baby, but when the mum offered to let her come meet the child for a supervised visit, she declined.

The woman explained: "I'm literally my son's only food source right now, but ok. I told her she could see him if ex ever got joint custody then and she 'assured me' he would have full custody and reminded me how horrible I am for not having him or her there to advocate for my son."

In the comment section, many agreed that she should get a lawyer involved and keep hold of all the communication they have had, particularly the threats.

One person said: "I would cease contact with Bill and his whole family except through your lawyer."

A second commented: "Keep all communication, including his mother threatening you. Don't reply, don't argue."

Another added: "You've got this. Congrats on the precious little baby! Trust your lawyer. Let your mom and boyfriend look after you. Breathe. It will be okay in the end."
