There are plans for Crumlin Shopping Centre to undergo a "major revamp" with Dunnes Stores reportedly set to replace it with a larger two storey mall.
As reported in The Times, the iconic shopping centre was first built in the 1970s and at the height of its popularity contained once had 49 shops, a bank, a pub, hairdressers and more. But since the 2010s, shops have gradually started to close and many will remember how in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic Texas Fried Chicken was the most recent to pull out of the shopping centre.
Now, only a solitary Dunnes Stores supermarket remains at the much-loved shopping centre, while the rest of the centre is closed off to the public. However, now there are fresh plans in the pipeline for the centre which could give it a new lease of life.

Sinn Fein local rep for Crumlin Ciarán Ó Meachair shared the exciting news on social media on Monday. He wrote: "Dunnes Stores have announced plans to redevelop the Crumlin Shopping Centre site. The plans would include the demolition of all existing structures, a café, food court & gym to be developed and the size of Dunnes itself on the site to be expanded.
"Given the site has been shamefully largely left derelict for a long time, many people will agree its positive to see something finally happening. That being said, we will have to look out for a lot more detail from Dunnes."
Last month, Labour Councillor Kevin Donoghue asked Dublin City Council managers what would become of the site. He said: "Can the Director confirm what engagement DCC has had with the owner, whether DCC has considered CPOing the site and whether it has been partially entered onto the Derelict Sites Register?”
In response, a representative for the chief executive in response to Cllr Donohue's question confirmed that the council's derelict sites section unit "plans to inspect the building and and will take action as appropriate following the assessment of its condition."
According to a recent planning permission, Better Value Limited which is owned by Dunnes Stores is seeking to demolish the 125,000 sq.ft building as part of a major refurbishment project.
Dublin Live has contacted Dunnes Stores for comment.
