A woman "impaled her hand on a railing" sparking a huge emergency services presence that resulted in a road being temporarily closed.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to the ECHO that the emergency services attended an incident on Derby Road, Southport this evening, Friday, June 23. Fire crews were alerted to the incident at around 5.50pm and the search and rescue team arrived five minutes later.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "This attendance was in response to a member of the public having impaled their hand on a railing. The casualty who was conscious and breathing, self-released from the railing and crews provided first aid and oxygen."

North West Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance attended and assessed the casualty before taking her to hospital by road for further treatment. Merseyside Police also attended.
A spokesperson for the force confirmed the incident was ambulance-led and was a medical issue.
