How next season's Formula E calendar is already taking shape

Returns to Santiago and Cape Town, as well as new venues in Phoenix and Bangkok, are options being considered for the 2025-26 Formula E calendar.

Despite the current season only being one race old after the season-opener in Sao Paulo last month, discussions are already gathering pace for the next campaign with a provisional calendar set to be announced in May.

Ahead of the Mexico City E-Prix on Saturday, Formula E championship co-founder Alberto Longo confirmed to Motorsport.com that talks were being held about returning to Chile.

The Santiago street circuit held the country’s inaugural race in 2018 before two further editions were held at the Parque O'Higgins Circuit in 2019 and 2020.

“We never say no to anything,” said Longo. “We are a global championship, we race in the five continents, and we obviously like to keep expanding that number of races, but I can't tell you much more about where and with whom we are talking. It's true that we are talking to Chile, as well as 11 other cities.

“We will decide the calendar in May, so we are very close to that date, to see which cities will form or shape the calendar for next season.”

As well as a return to Chile, another race in South Africa is also being seriously considered after the Cape Town street circuit held its sole race in 2023.

While the event was deemed a success by drivers, teams and fans due to the challenging nature of the circuit and picturesque location, a financial loss meant it was dropped from the calendar.

Autosport also understands that a new venue in America is being sought which would be based in Phoenix on a circuit layout located in the city.

Formula E will visit the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the first time in April and prior to that race meeting, an-as-yet undisclosed event will also be held at the same venue.

While exact details are still being confirmed and expected later this month, Autosport understands that social media influencers and celebrities will be given the chance to get behind the wheel of the Gen3 Evo machines.

The 8 March date was initially listed as a TBC on the provisional 2024-25 calendar released by the championship, with a race in Thailand’s Chiang Mai city expected to fill the slot before changes in local government meant a deal fell through.

Autosport understands that Formula E is still keen to hold a race in the country, and Thailand’s capital has now been touted as the location for next season's schedule.
