How hot it is going to get where you are as Met Office says June heatwave will hit 25C this week

Wales is currently basking in its best period of weather by far this year, with hardly any rain in sight for the best part of a month and temperatures set to hit the mid-20s later this week. The latest forecast says the fine weather should last at least all of the coming week and across next weekend, with a possibility of some rain in eight or nine days time.

Beaches across Wales have been packed all week as schools broke up for the half-term break, and crowds have descended on seaside spots on Saturday and Sunday as people make the most of the best period of dry weather since last summer. Every area of Wales is set to enjoy more glorious sunshine in the coming days, and below we’ve broken down just how hot it’s going to get in different parts of the country, according to forecasts from the Met Office, who predict that the week will see “high pressure giving mainly fine and settled weather” with “warm sunshine for many”.

Sunday’s top temperature in the Welsh capital is a balmy 23C, peaking at around 4pm and cooling to 18C by around 11pm. Monday will be much the same with a top temperature of 21C, and once again no chance of rain. Tuesday will be slightly cooler with a peak of about 19C, while Wednesday will see temperatures cross the 20C barrier once more. Thursday will vary between 18C and 21C, Friday will hit 22C in the late afternoon, and next weekend too will see temperatures approach the mid-20s by the mid to late afternoons.

Swansea

Wales’ second largest city will see very similar temperatures to Cardiff, ranging from 19C to 21C for most of the week, with Friday starting off cloudy but then seeing temperatures of 23C by the afternoon. Saturday looks set to be the warmest day of the week in Swansea with a maximum temperature of 23C, with no sight of any rain until at least the following week.

Tenby

The half-term holidays may be over but people will still flock to Tenby given half the chance during this period of wonderful sunshine. As with other parts of Wales, there is next to no chance of rain this week on the Pembrokeshire coast, with temperatures ranging from 17C to 20C up until Wednesday. Thursday afternoon will see a high of 21C, while Friday and next weekend will be the best days to spend in Tenby with temperatures hitting 23C.

North Wales has also been baking in the recent sunshine and this week will be no different. Temperatures will range from 18C to 21C during the days between Monday and Friday, before Saturday promises to be one of the hottest days of the year as temperatures climb to 24C.

The wonderful seaside town of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion could possibly be the hottest place in Wales by next weekend. Before then, the start of the week will see daytime temperatures of 22C on Monday, 21C on Tuesday and 22C again on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday will see a climb to 24C before a scorcher next Saturday which could see temperatures of 25C by the mid to late afternoon.

Some rain is expected later this month, with the potential for some thunderstorms. However, June is expected to be mainly fine. According to the Met Office: “High pressure is likely to become less dominant with time, especially in the south with low pressure likely to approach from the near Continent. Northern areas may hang on to the largely dry conditions, but southern areas will see an increased risk of occasional heavy rain or thunderstorms from time to time. Any changes will be slow though, and there will still be plenty of dry and warm, sunny weather between any rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures widely above average, perhaps significantly so.”
