Hamas Agrees To Ceasefire Proposal From Qatari And Egyptian Mediators

A "pray-in" to call on U.S. President Biden to support an Israel-Hamas ceasefire, outside the White House in Washington

Hamas has announced that Ismail Haniyeh, head of its political bureau, has informed Qatari and Egyptian mediators of the group's agreement to a proposed ceasefire agreement.

In a statement released by Hamas, Haniyeh reportedly made phone calls to the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and the Egyptian Minister of Intelligence Mr. Abbas Kamel to convey Hamas' acceptance of the ceasefire proposal.

The decision comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, with Hamas signaling its willingness to engage in efforts to de-escalate the situation.

The statement did not provide specific details of the proposed ceasefire agreement, but it is understood that the mediators have been actively involved in brokering discussions between Hamas and Israeli authorities.

Following the announcement, sources have indicated that the Israeli Prime Minister's office has been contacted for comment on the development.

Efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement have been ongoing, with various parties working towards finding a resolution to the recent hostilities in the region.

It remains to be seen how the ceasefire proposal will be received by all relevant stakeholders and whether it will lead to a cessation of hostilities in the near future.
