Greggs opening 150 new UK stores this year - see list of confirmed sites so far

Greggs is set to open 150 new stores this year as it revealed its sales jumped 23% to £1.5billion last year.

The bakery chain will also relocate 40 shops to new, larger sites and trial a 24-hour drive thru service at some branches.

Greggs said it opened a record 186 new shops in 2022 and closed 39 sites, taking its total store number to 2,328.

It said there is now "clear opportunity" to grow this number to more than 3,000 UK shops "in time" as it eyes up an even bigger presence on the high street.

The high street food giant also relocated 25 existing shops to better sites in 2022 and refurbished 86 existing shops.

Greggs told The Mirror it has already opened three sites and has revealed the next eight stores to open.

You can see a list of store locations confirmed so far below.

As well as opening more shops, Greggs extended opening hours at around 500 sites to 8pm or beyond, increasing its sales of hot evening meals.

A further 300 shops will see their opening hours extended to 9pm this year.

Trade has also been boosted by delivery sales, Greggs said, with 1,270 stores now allowing customers to order food from home.

Sales were up compared the £1.2billion reported the previous year.

However, pre-tax profit was up by just 1.9% over the year, coming in at £148.3million, after it was hit by inflation and higher energy and staff costs.

Greggs first opened in the UK in 1939 in Tyneside and is best known for its sausage rolls and steak bakes.

Roisin Currie, the chief executive of Greggs, said: "2022 has been a year of strong progress for Greggs, the result of committed efforts to deliver our strategic growth plan.

"The significant opportunities on which the plan is based will remain centre stage in the year ahead as we make Greggs more accessible to even more customers.

"Although consumer incomes remain under pressure, Greggs continues to offer exceptional value to people looking for great tasting, high-quality food and drink on-the-go.

"We have an exciting, ambitious plan for the years ahead and, by continuing to nurture what makes Greggs special, I believe we are extremely well-placed to realise the opportunity to become a significantly larger, multi-channel business."

It comes after Greggs launched 11 new items, including three different crispy chicken ciabatta rolls, new wraps and new wedges.

Sadly, not everyone can get their hands on the new items as nine products are only being trialled at just nine stores at the moment.

Most of these trial stores are based in the North East in Durham, Sunderland, and Newcastle.

If the trial goes well, then Greggs customers across the country may be given the chance to try the new offerings later this year.
