You have to play at a certain level to seriously rock a superhero’s identity as a nickname in the NBA, and when it comes to the Boston Celtics’ Grant Williams, lately, he has been. Given he has made a case to be called “Batman” after the famous DC Comics character known for fighting crime in Gotham City and his surprising effectiveness against the Joker and followed it up with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Williams is on terra firma when it comes to the nickname for now.
Known as the most talkative Boston player, the intellectual forward recently got together with the folks over at the semi- eponymous “Noble and Roosh” podcast to talk all things Celtics with hosts Zak Noble and Andrew Roosh.
The threesome covers how the Tennessee product became one of the more reliable shooters in the NBA, how he’s fit into the rotation and helped others like Derrick White do the same, how he uses analytics in game planning and much more.
Check out the clip embedded above to hear the story behind Batman’s — er, Grant’s — rise to prominence in the NBA city overseen by (Rich) Gotham.
