Gran, 90, who looks like she's 20 years younger says exercise routine is key

A 90-year-old grandmother who is often mistaken for her daughter has shared how she manages to stay looking so young. Fitness fanatic Edna May Giordano has a lot of life experience, so it's not surprising she knows a thing or two about staying in shape.

Despite her age, strangers often think Edna is in her 70s, and sometimes even younger, and she puts it all down to her healthy lifestyle that includes weight training, yoga - and gardening.

She picked up a simple exercise routine in her mid-60s after realising she didn't want to lose her mobility and strength as she aged, and now she does it every single day - and her motto is 'if you don't use it, you will lose it'.

What do you think about Edna's lifestyle? Let us know in the comments...

Alongside a simple dumbbell and cardio routine, Edna also spends as much time as possible outdoors tending to her vegetable garden and flower beds.

Her daughter, Dalyce Radtke, 58, has captured clips of her mother's unbelievable appearance and mobility.

Edna can be seen performing various yoga poses and pilates exercises such as the bear crawl, balancing table pose and 'rolling and rocking', which help her maintain her core strength.

Daylce recalled that people have always assumed her mother was years younger than her actual age, something she puts down to taking pride in her appearance.

Edna, who is a retired hospital housekeeper from Kelowna, Canada, has never followed any fancy gimmicks or fad diets but simply made taking care of herself a priority.

She said: "I have no secrets - I exercise because of how it makes me feel afterwards.

"There are days when I don't feel like exercising but I do it anyway. I know if I don't use it, I will lose it."

Dalyce, who herself is a fitness instructor from Frisco, Texas, believes that her mother's youthful looks are down to her independence and self-assurance.

She said: "My mom chooses outfits that make her feel good, not what society typically assumes 'grandmas' should wear. She's not afraid to wear trendy clothing, even at her age!"

Dalyce has been a fitness fanatic since she bought her first gym membership 37 years ago and began posting fitness-related content on TikTok during the COVID-19 lockdowns after encouragement from her children.

She noticed that there weren't many over 50s posting fitness content so she knew her simple, at-home workouts and fitness tips would be helpful to ageing women lacking in knowledge.

In August this year, a video she posted of Edna went viral as viewers from around the world could not believe she was actually 90 years old.

Dalyce said: "My mom really thinks people are making a big deal over nothing regarding her age and fitness abilities.

"She loves life and values her independence. She is very astounded as to why others don't choose to do all they can to help them live their best life."

The pair both hope that Edna's story will remind people that 'age is a mindset' and that a positive attitude towards ageing is what will keep you young.

Daylce said: "How we think about getting older has played a big part in keeping us both feeling young.

"It is inevitable that we will age, the number of years you've been alive does not have to limit what you can do or achieve.

"If you create consistent habits like common sense food choices, consistent movement and daily gratitude, your age will define nothing more than the linear time of your journey."
