Well-read pupils at a Lanarkshire primary are enjoying a new chapter at their school library after receiving a donation of 1000 books.
Youngsters at Glengowan Primary in Larkhall were presented with the special gift by representatives of online bookseller, Better World Books and mail delivery management company Whistl.
The partnership was set up by parent Graham Sutherland, who works for the latter company and established a link between it and the school to support its newly-established library.
Staff from both companies visited to hand over the bumper donation and spoke to all pupils from primary four to seven about the journey of books, from online orders being placed, through to delivery to customers’ houses.
Glengowan staff thanked the firms for their donation, saying it will “help ensure that all children continue to have free access to a wide range of books to allow them to read for pleasure”.
Head teacher Graeme Murray said: “This will significantly increase our stock in the library and will give our children access to a wider range of texts.
“Our pupils loved having the opportunity to learn about the journey of a book and how both Better World Books and Whistl are involved in the process.
“We’re extremely grateful to Mr Sutherland and Whistl for establishing this link, and I’d like to thank everyone at Whistl and Better World Books UK for everything that they have done to enhance our pupils’ enjoyment of our new library.”
