Glasgow welcomes Der Berliner as gourmet kebab restaurant opens in Merchant City

An exciting new gourmet kebab restaurant has opened its doors in the Merchant City.

The team behind Der Berliner say the new eatery turns everything you know about the late-night favourite on its head. They stated that their authentic German kebabs are "a million miles away" from the junk food variety.

Offering premium meat, fresh salad and veg, fluffy hot bread baked in-house, Der Berliner is more gourmet than late-night takeout.

“This is a new concept for the city and it’s one people seem to be really embracing," explained Der Berliner manager CarolAnn Cassidy. “We opened just at New Year as a soft launch and have been tweaking everything about our products, our food and our venue to get it absolutely right since then.

“That’s where we are now and we want to show people how good kebabs can be – this is healthy, nutritious food which is a mind-blowing thing for most as it’s the exact opposite of the usual image of a kebab here.

“We are really proud of our food and the response from people so far has been incredible. Der Berliner is for EVERYONE. It is modern, forward-thinking, creative, energetic, cosmopolitan and inclusive."

Inspired by the city of Berlin, the new restaurant uses high-end, locally sourced lamb, beef and chicken, and offers quality vegetarian and vegan alternative options.

CarolAnn added: "You choose your bread, your protein and your toppings and the expert chefs put it all together In front of you – it’s all totally customisable.

"Same goes for the loaded fries and so on – have it all your way. Our loaded fries are really special too, you can have anything from the toppings menu added to them and we have had some really interesting creations."

She explained that the kebabs come with lamb, chicken, beef, falafel, veganer or mixed, with two toppings and two sauces for £10.50, adding: “Our Pommes Frites or Sweet Potato Pommes Frites with two toppings and sauce are a huge hit as well. Basically whatever you want in the way of a gourmet kebab, we will make it for you. We even offer truffle oil!”

Der Berliner is serving up these epic kebabs alongside a top selection of German beers, plus cocktails and soft drinks.
