Glasgow student sparks fury after saying hometown of Edinburgh is better 'in every way'

A Glasgow student has sparked controversy after saying his hometown of Edinburgh is best.

Known as Keano on TikTok, he created the video entitled 'Edinburgh vs Glasgow! No hate lol,' on Friday, Edinburgh Live reports.

The heated rivalry between Scotland's two biggest cities has been a source of tension for years and sparked numerous debates.

Aware of the potential damage of reigniting the long-standing discourse, the student begins with a warning, saying that he is "about to cause major offence to some people."

But it doesn't take him long to pick his side, as he says: “Edinburgh tops Glasgow in almost everything."

He then adds that the capital is “of course prettier” than it's neighbour down the M8.

But Keano's “biggest grievance” seems to be that “Glasgow buses suck," whereas Lothian buses are “luxury - like sitting in the interior of something made out of angora rabbit.”

He adds: “Yes, Glasgow has a Subway but it doesn’t go anywhere useful, it's a bit like the Edinburgh trams."

Speaking about the locals, he says: “Everyone says in the main that Glaswegians are much more friendly than Edinburgh people…

But he does give the Dear Green Place some Brownie points when it comes to finances - though not without another dig.

He says: “Edinburgh is a lot more expensive than Glasgow and that is an area where Glasgow wins.”

Keano goes on to say that he sees the cost difference in a different light from others, as he views Edinburgh as Marks & Spencer level of quality, and sees Glasgow as more of a Lidl.

He said that: “Everything is better value in Lidl and occasionally you find a gem like the bakery section.

“Whereas M&S is guaranteed quality.”

Although he does concede that: “I do however love Glasgow and walking down Buchanan Street is probably the most entertaining thing you can do with your day.

“And we can safely say that both are better than Dundee.”

The rivalry between the two cities has burned for centuries, but, as reported in an Edinburgh Live article from January, it's claimed that the rivalry may have started more than 300 years ago.

A pair of Edinburgh bakers offered to bake bread for Glaswegians after their town council said that their own bakers were not up to scratch in 1656.
