Southsiders, there’s a new evening menu in town - and it’s a whopper for fans of vegetarian food.
Silk Road Deli in Shawlands’ Minard Road is famous for its ‘flavour bomb’ sandwiches, and will now branch out with an ever-changing, five-course menu on Friday nights. There are only 20 seats so bookings are sure to fill up fast as foodies flock to join owner Tanya Gohil, who starred in BBC show Million Pound Menu, on a tour of the flavours found along the historic Silk Road.
Glasgow Live was given a sneak preview of the concept this week, and can vouch for the tastiness of Tanya’s food, having sampled dishes like whipped feta with salt and pepper-fried mushroom and an epic panko-fried, gochujang-drenched cauliflower burger.

The woman dubbed the ‘Willy Wonka of sandwiches’ said: “Our evening dinner service is the perfect extension to our already successful lunchtime offering and private dinner parties. We pride ourselves on cooking with interesting, vibrant ingredients that not only delight our customers but introduce them to something new.
“The dishes we serve aren’t Eurocentric - they are an amalgamation of flavours that spread across several food cultures and traditions. We’re so passionate about cooking this way and love sharing it with our community.”
Chef Tanya, 35, started out on food stall Devi’s in London’s Bermondsey a decade ago but moved to Glasgow in 2021 - Silk Road Deli opened in July last year and has fast become a local favourite.
“I believe our new concept offers something really distinct compared to other establishments in the south side,” she said.
“There are very few venues in the south side that offer something completely different, but that’s what sets us apart from everyone else.
"We want to continue to push the dining scene in Shawlands forward and spark some real excitement when it comes to eating out."
She added: “We want to really pioneer special bonding experiences around the dinner table. If our customers walk through our door as strangers, we want them to leave as friends. As people, we crave a sense of togetherness, community and connectivity and I truly believe our new concept will help achieve that.
“Our evening dinner service invites people into our world, with the knowledge they will leave with a full belly and a full heart. Whether it’s brunch, lunch or dinner, our doors are open and we’ll be there to welcome you with open arms.”
The first BYOB evening sitting kicks off next week (July 22) and runs every week from 6pm to 9.30pm and you can grab a table by emailing silkroadbookings@gmail.com.
