Glasgow Christmas Fair: How much it costs for a family of four on a day out

In case you've failed to notice, Glasgow's Christmas celebrations are now in full swing, with George Square transformed with a fun fair, stalls, a big wheel, and the return of the ice rink.

With thousands of locals and tourists alike set to flock to this huge Christmas event over the next month, it's sure to be a big draw for families too.

But with the current climate, many will be wondering, more than ever, how much it will cost them to take their family for a fun festive day out.

So, to help we've taken a look at what a family of four - two adults, two children – can expect to roughly pay, based on enjoying a few of the attractions, the big wheel, and the ice rink included, plus enjoying a bite to eat.

The ice rink has returned to George Square (SM)

Starting with the ice rink, which is one of the biggest draws, to enjoy some time on the ice, it will cost you £15.50 for each parent and £13 for kids under 16.

A penguin stabiliser can also be added for kids can be purchased for £5.

So that's £57 straight off the bat. Or £62 if you throw in the stabiliser.

(If you book in advance online via the website, it'll save you £8 in total - adults £13.50 and kids £11.)

From the ice rink, it is a short walk to the fairground rides, and for the Venetian Swings (£4) smaller children will be too wee to get on, there are plenty of rides for smaller kids such as the Helter Skelter or the fun train ride are £4 each, that's another £8 for the two kids or £16 if you do both.

After you've had fun on the rides, you'll want to get some food and drink to refuel.

Going for the most obvious option, the German Grill, you can split a large Bratwurst and chips between one adult and child, you would pay £22 for all four, Bratwurst £8 and chips £3.

Throw in two cans of juice and that's another fiver.

For a wee gluhwein each for the adults (£5 each) and two hot chocolates for the kids (£4 each) it would add on another £18.

And we're guessing it wouldn't be a family day out without the kids wanting something sweet, so to toast some marshmallows on the open fire, it'll cost you £3 each.

To finish off, you'll obviously want to have a go on the Big Wheel, which at 33m offers stunning views of the city and the ideal opportunity for a cute family photo.

Here, it's £8 each for the adults and a fiver for kids under 12, so that's another £26.

So by our calculation, an average day out for a family would come to around £145, and that's before you throw in toys or gifts from some of the stalls on the day.
