Gino D'Acampo 'proud' his son shares restaurant passion as he eyes further expansion

Gino D'Acampo has gushed about how proud he is that son Luciano is sharing his passion for food and has opened up on his plans to further expand his successful restaurant business.

The dad-of-three admitted that while his children's involvement in the industry he adores was never a dead cert, he is grateful his eldest is taking such a keen interest in the restaurant which he named after him.

He also revealed his ambitious plans to launch similar establishments named after his other kids in the future.

Speaking to the Mirror, Gino said: "We are looking into my son Rocco because I think at some point we want to do an Italian grill restaurant.

"So we think we will do a Rocco Italian Grill."

However, he openly admitted that a link-up with the 17-year-old might not run as smoothly as it has with his eldest son Luciano, 19.

"You see, Rocco is going to be a pain compared to Luciano," he confessed. "He [Luciano] is more flexible with things, while Rocco wants things done his way."

Speaking about his successful restaurants named after Luciano - the first of which was opened just a stone's throw away from Covent Garden in the heart of London's West End - the chirpy Italian explained his eldest son is extremely committed in its success.

He labelled his dedication to the business as "extraordinary, especially for his age" and continued: "He wants to be very involved, especially with the menu.

"Every time we do the menu changes he comes up with loads of notes because he goes out quite a lot - more than I do - so if there's a new trend he always brings it back to me and says 'let's work on that'."

When asked if the pair have ever bumped heads in the delicate process, Gino joked his son "wouldn't dare" question his culinary skills.

However, he amusingly added that on the rare occasion he's challenged on the decision-making front, the teen comes out on top as "he's been trained by his mother" in the art of getting his own way.

The latest menu shake-up sees the restaurant's exciting Spring/Summer selection launched and the popular chef admits regular updates on the food front are important.

This way, he says, guests won't get bored of visiting and he'll also get the most out of the seasonal crops which are available.

His future plans to expand the business don't just lie in England, either.

"We're talking Ireland, Scotland, Italy, we are talking about Amsterdam, we are talking about Barcelona," he said. "So there are a few restaurants to open."

In the meantime though, he is switching his attention to the small screen. Following on from hit shows such as Gino's Italian Family Adventure, Gino has headed to his native Italy to film Gino's Italy: Like Mama Used to Make.

He is then set to head up a dating show titled Cooking Up Love with Gino, which will be filmed in his luxurious Sardinian villa.

Speaking about the project, he admitted it'll be "interesting and quite funny" as it's a show which has never been done before.

"ITV love the idea but at the moment I have no idea about what I'm going to do," he confessed, before joking: "I'm watching a lot of old Cilla Black Blind Date shows and I'm getting a lot of tips from Fred [Sirieix]."
