Getafe have been sanctioned by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for incidents of racial and xenophobic abuse that occurred during their recent LaLiga match against Sevilla. The RFEF has ordered Getafe to partially close their central stand for three matches as a consequence of the discriminatory behavior exhibited by some fans towards Sevilla manager Quique Sánchez Flores and player Marcos Acuña.
The match was halted in the 68th minute by referee Iglesias Villanueva after he heard racial insults being directed at Acuña from the stands. This action was in line with LaLiga's protocol against racism, which aims to combat such unacceptable behavior in football stadiums.
Following the game, Sánchez Flores revealed in a post-match press conference that he had been subjected to a xenophobic slur by a group of fans during the encounter. The severity of the incident led to the RFEF imposing a partial closure of Getafe's central stand for the upcoming matches, along with a fine of €27,000 ($29,000) for the club.
In addition to the sanctions, the RFEF mandated that the closed area in the stands must prominently display a visible message condemning violent, racist, xenophobic, and intolerant acts in football, while also promoting the values of fair play within the sport.
