Gemma Collins splashes out £500 a night on security after becoming a 'recluse'

Gemma Collins spends £500 a night on a security guard after she admitted she was becoming a "recluse".

The reality queen says she struggles with her anxiety as she finds it impossible to leave the house without getting recognised.

Gemma sat down with Robbie Williams' wife Ayda for her Postcards from the Edge Podcast, where she explained how she struggles with fame.

"I addressed this in counselling because I was getting like a bit of a recluse.

"I was getting reclusive but I wasn't depressed or anything, but I was like 'oh no, if I go out it's going to be hassle'," she explained.

"My friends then get asked to take loads of pictures, then I get really bad anxiety about it and then I'd end up staying at home and everyone would come to me, I live in the country now, I moved way out of it all."

"Rami and I will be on a date and we're just about to go in for a kiss and someone will be "Can I have a picture?"

"And then you feel bad, and you don't want to be horrible because they're your fans, so it's a whole mixed emotions."

She said that her therapist has encouraged her to politely say no to photo requests if she doesn't feel up to it.

Although Gemma said that she "always says yes" to young fans.

She had to take her own security guard to Winter Wonderland in London, because she is unable to disguise herself "due to her distinctive voice".

Last year she was forced to create her own "GC Winter Wonderland" at her own home so she didn't have to deal with being mobbed by fans.

Gemma recently opened up about how her and fiance Rami Hawash re-sparked their relationship seven years after they broke off their original engagement.

"I went through some real uncomfortable feelings. I had to face up to a lot of things. Sometimes people treat me really appallingly and I just sort of used to gloss over. It's fine, it's showbiz. It was kind of like dealing with all of that.

"But then I feel like maybe I was tested because once I'd sort of learnt to love myself again because that saying: Once you love yourself, then someone else can love you. I'm not going to feel guilty about sadness."

Gemma and Rami reunited during lockdown, after having known each other for ten years.

"I did fall in love with myself again. I did get to know myself again. All these people that have like come and gone in my life, they weren't there for the right reasons," she explained.

"Then all of a sudden I was so comfortable being on my own, I used to get kind of a bit bugged if people would like 'oh, let's come around and see you. Yeah, let's do this, let's make hundreds of plans.'

"I was like, you know what? Actually I'm fine. Then I got to a point, I was really comfortable, happy, I was like I've got this, I'm chilled, I make my own decisions in my own time."
