Gary Neville calls for the Glazers to go on European Super League anniversary

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has called on the Glazers to leave the club on the anniversary of the attempt to form the European Super League.

Last April, 12 of European football's 'leading clubs' announced their intention to form a midweek competition called the European Super League (ESL). United, alongside Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were all involved in its launch.

However, after widespread criticism from supporters and pundits, the idea was scrapped. By May all but Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus had renounced the competition.

On Saturday, Manchester United fan group The 1958 organised a peaceful protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club. A large turnout marched from the Tollgate to the Theatre of Dreams with some choosing to boycott the first 17 minutes of Saturday's victory over Norwich City.

Inside the stadium anti-Glazer chants were heard as United supporters made their feelings known. Taking to Twitter, Neville has used the anniversary of the ESL to renew calls for the Glazers to leave.

He posted: "It’s one year to the day the European Super League was launched. Six clubs in this country including mine were willing to destroy English Football for their own greed.

"12 months on United fans are still angry and waiting for Joel Glazer to show as he promised. The Glazer family must go."
