Three drunk drivers were arrested over the weekend by one Garda unit - including one who crashed their car and another who tried to evade the officers in pursuit.
It is an offence to drive in a public place in Ireland if you are too intoxicated to have proper control of your vehicle or have consumed more than the permitted amount of an intoxicant.
Penalties on conviction for drink driving vary depending on the amount of alcohol that has been detected in your system, but can lead to up to six years in prison.
Three people could now face that punishment after incidents in Monaghan.
A spokesperson for the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division explained: "Over the weekend there were three drivers arrested and processed for drunk driving in the Monaghan area.
"One was arrested after losing control of his car and subsequently crashing. Thankfully nobody sustained injuries in this incident.
"Another was stopped having no taxed displayed and found to be under the influence of alcohol. There was also a bench warrant in existence for this individual.
"The third tried to evade capture but was intercepted and arrested. All three drivers posed a risk to other road users and now face Court proceedings having being charged.
"It is certainly not worth taking the chance so please don't drive while under the influence of drink or drugs."
