You couldn’t script this better if you were Freddie Freeman.
Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves was Freeman’s first against his former team. The reigning World Series champions traded for first baseman Matt Olson in March, signaling the end of Freeman’s 12-year career with the Braves in a move that shocked fans.
And now, it’s a move that came back to bite them, as Freeman not only hit his first home run as a member of the Dodgers, he did so in his first ever at bat against his former team! In the bottom of the first inning, Freeman hit a slicing line drive out to left field, which quickly got over the fence to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

To hit a home run against your former team coming off a World Series win together has to be some incredible combination of bittersweet and satisfying if you’re Freeman. But hey, what a way to get your first home run with your new club!
