Four people are to face trial on a combined total of 332 charges of animal cruelty, arising out of an investigation that led to the seizure of an array of creatures including tarantulas, a snake and a scorpion.
It follows an ongoing multi-agency investigation into the welfare of a total of 39 pedigree French bulldogs, English bulldogs and Dachshund dogs as well as a Cane Corso Italian mastiff and two British Shorthair cats.
The animals were allegedly found in inhumane living conditions between two apartments in the Citywest area of Dublin two years ago on December 1, 2021. Amongst the creatures also found on the day included tarantulas, parrots, a snake, a scorpion and even a millipede.

Tallaght District Court heard gardai are alleging the two apartments are considered one.
Alanna Jenkins, 32, of Errigal Road, Drimnagh in Dublin, Carla Brady, 31, of City West Golfing Apartments in Saggart, Co Dublin; Gerald Adedoyin, 36, City West Golfing Apartments in Saggart, Co Dublin and Abraham Adeuyni, 27, of Errigal Road in Drimnagh, Dublin, all appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with 83 counts each of animal cruelty under Section 11, Section 12 and Section 13 of the Animal Welfare Act.
Each faces one count of failing to protect the animals’ welfare under Section 11, 41 charges each of animal cruelty under Section 12 and 41 charges each under Section 13 of the Animal Welfare of failing to provide a sufficient quantity of water and or of suitable food for them.
Sgt Diane Swift told Judge Patricia McNamara the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment in the circuit court for all four accused.
When asked by Judge McNamara what the case is about, Sgt Swift said: “The case is a complex case following a massive investigation and it allegedly involves the welfare of 39 pedigree dogs, two pedigree cats and a Cane Corso dog.
“The evidence is the same against all four.” No charges have been brought in relation to the tarantulas, parrots, snake, scorpion or millipede also found on the day.
The court heard there were no garda objections to granting bail to all four – subject to strict conditions.
They were granted bail on their own bonds of €500 and the conditions they each sign on twice a week at a named garda station, reside at their addresses given in court, notify gardai if they move addresses, provide up to date phone numbers and surrender their passports and not to apply for new travel documents.
They’ll appear again on May 11.
