The New Orleans Saints had another bad loss on Sunday and while fans may be coping by getting excited about a slightly better draft pick, that isn’t going to cut it for the players.
Veteran tight end Foster Moreau is a great example of that. He shared an passionate speech after the game about the value in staying competitive, and why the players still want to win these games.
“There’s plenty of the fan base that wants us to lose so we can get a better draft pick. I’m not blind to that,” Moreau said after the game. “I see that and they can think that all they want. But people have to play for their passion, and they have to play with pride, and they have to play for each other, and they have to play for their jobs. You have to play because this is your resume. And I (expletive) hate talking about resumes.”
Moreau added: “You’ve got to play for pride, and you’ve got to play for not only the name on the back, but the name on the front, and the logo on the side of your damn helmet. That’s a fact. I’d love to see us get back to doing that.”
Moreau has had a short, but storied career with the Saints. He is a hometown guy that starred for the LSU Tigers in college. Shortly after signing with New Orleans, he found out that he had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He signed a three-year deal with the team after completing treatment.
The 27-year-old found his footing as a receiving threat again this season with 28 catches for 382 yards and five touchdowns. He is also a great blocker and clearly a leader in the locker room. The team needs more examples like him of how to tackle the adversity of a season with double-digit losses.
