In a shocking turn of events, the former executive assistant of a tech CEO has been convicted of murdering his boss in a gruesome crime that took place in 2020. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced that Tyrese Haspil, 25, was found guilty of first-degree murder, along with other charges including grand larceny and burglary.
The victim, Fahim Saleh, 33, was a successful entrepreneur and CEO of Gokada, a Nigerian motorcycle ride-hail company. Haspil's motive for the murder was to prevent Saleh from discovering that he had embezzled approximately $400,000 from him.
Haspil had been Saleh's assistant since May 2018 and had access to his financial records, which he used to carry out his fraudulent activities. Despite resigning in May 2019, Haspil continued to steal money from Saleh's companies through elaborate schemes involving fake financial accounts and transactions.
When Saleh confronted Haspil about the embezzlement, Haspil agreed to repay the stolen funds but continued his criminal activities, leading him to plan Saleh's murder to avoid being exposed. In July 2020, Haspil followed Saleh into his condo, where he tased and stabbed him multiple times before dismembering his body.
Saleh's cousin discovered the gruesome scene, prompting Haspil's arrest by the police. The tragic incident has left Saleh's loved ones mourning the loss of a promising entrepreneur who supported aspiring tech professionals.
The sentencing for Haspil is scheduled for September, as the legal proceedings continue to unfold. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of greed and betrayal in the business world.
