In a shocking turn of events, the former executive assistant of a tech CEO has been convicted of murdering his boss in a gruesome crime that took place in 2020. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced that Tyrese Haspil, 25, was found guilty of first-degree murder, among other charges, for the killing of Fahim Saleh, 33.
Prosecutors revealed that Haspil murdered Saleh to prevent him from discovering that Haspil had embezzled approximately $400,000 from Saleh, who was a prominent venture capitalist and CEO of Gokada, a Nigerian motorcycle ride-hail company.
Haspil, who had served as Saleh's assistant and was responsible for managing his finances, used deceitful tactics to siphon funds from Saleh's companies. Despite resigning from his position, Haspil continued his fraudulent activities, leading to a confrontation between him and Saleh in January 2020.
Following the confrontation, Haspil agreed to repay the stolen money but instead used the ill-gotten funds to further his embezzlement scheme. Fearing exposure and legal consequences, Haspil resorted to planning Saleh's murder to silence him.
The tragic incident unfolded on July 13, 2020, when Haspil ambushed Saleh in his Lower East Side condo, incapacitating and fatally stabbing him. Haspil then returned the next day to dismember Saleh's body and conceal the crime scene.
Upon the discovery of Saleh's remains by his cousin, authorities swiftly apprehended Haspil, who was later charged with the heinous crimes. Saleh, known for his entrepreneurial spirit and support of aspiring tech professionals, was mourned by many for his untimely demise.
The verdict brings a semblance of closure to Saleh's loved ones, as they grapple with the loss of a visionary entrepreneur whose life was cut short by a trusted associate turned assailant. Haspil is set to be sentenced in September, marking the culmination of a tragic chapter in the tech industry.
