Former ITV Love Island winner brands viewers 'bozos' over unpopular change to show

Former Love Island winner Amber Gill was told to 'get a grip' as she had her say on the unpopular change to this year's series. During the launch show on Monday night (June 6) instead of choosing who they wanted to be coupled-up with, the Islanders were paired by a public vote.

Fans of the ITV2 show flocked to have their say about the switch in format. And Amber, who won the 2019 series with Greg O'Shea, raised some eyebrows with her opinion on the change.

She tweeted: "I would be fuming too if someone else chose for me. I did three interviews telling you my preferences and you let the BOZOS pick!!?" Fellow tweeter @the_pizzaqueen_told her: "The BOZOS also chose for you to be the winner ... so we didn't do too bad really." And Amber replied: "Lol sorry not the bozos MY bozos."

@Sully22Lavish asked: "You calling us the public bozos??" And @saraholiverx said: "Better than people being humiliated on TV when no one picks them and being left out."

But @Chicagojewlz told her: "I'm with you on this though. Not a fan of the format. I loved seeing what everyone's 'type' was at the jump."

They added: "It's not like we've watched these ppl for a month and then pick. It's totally random and has other negative implications of who people think should be together." And @the4thchilddd agreed: "What’s the point of Love Island if I’m letting someone else pick my love life."

One of the pairings dressage rider Gemma Owen with student Liam Llewellyn got off to an awkward start with a stilted Gemma admitted that she was more attracted to newcomer Davide Sanclimenti, from Manchester, who turned heads when he walked into the villa in a partially unbuttoned shirt.
