Former Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, is set to release a memoir this fall reflecting on her impactful four-year tenure in office. During her time as Prime Minister, Marin led an unprecedented all-female governing coalition, oversaw Finland's entry into NATO, and championed legislation on climate change and social justice.
The memoir, titled 'Hope in Action: A Memoir about the Courage to Lead,' is scheduled to be published on November 4 by Scribner. In a statement, Marin expressed her belief in the importance of taking action in the face of global challenges, emphasizing the need for hope and proactive leadership.
Scribner described the book as a 'rare, personal account' of pivotal events that shaped Marin's political career. Elected at the age of 34 in 2019, Marin made history as the leader of a center-left coalition comprised entirely of women.
Internationally, Marin gained recognition for her firm stance against Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Finland's swift decision to join NATO, marking a significant departure from the country's longstanding policy of neutrality since World War II.
Marin's tenure was not without controversy, as her private life occasionally made headlines. In 2022, she issued an apology following the circulation of a photo showing two women kissing and posing topless at the prime minister's official summer residence. Additionally, a video of Marin dancing and singing with friends sparked a debate on the expectations of a head of state's behavior during leisure time.
Having left politics in 2023, Marin has since taken on a role as a strategic counselor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Her memoir is expected to offer insights into her leadership journey and inspire readers to advocate for positive change in the world.
