Flybe refunds: Advice for Leeds Bradford Airport flights and how to get money back

Airline Flybe have released advice on how to get a refund for your flight after it was announced that it had collapsed into administration this morning.

Passengers are being urged not to go to airports if they have booked a flight with Flybe and instead to arrange alternative travel arrangements themselves. All flights have been grounded for the second time in three years.

The business had been bought out of administration back in 2021 and had started operating at Leeds Bradford airport once again with plans to operate 530 flights across 23 routes from various UK airports. However, passengers find themselves stranded once again and out of pocket after the latest announcement this morning.

Now the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued further advice to passengers on what to do and how to get a refund for your flight if you're affected.

How to get a refund if you booked directly

If you're a passenger that booked directly with Flybe and you paid by credit card you should be protected.

This is under Section 75 on the Consumer Credit Act 1974. You should contact your card issuer directly according to the CAA for further information and instructions. If you paid by debit or charge card you should also contact your card issuer directly for advice, as you may be able to make a claim under charge back rules.

In this instance some card providers may want a 'negative response letter' confirming the position. Some passengers may also be told to make a claim against their travel insurer.

Refunds if you booked through an Airline Ticket Agent

If you booked through an agent you should speak to the agent first of all. They may be able to provide advice or they may have even provided travel insurance that includes airline failure cover.

Refunds if you have Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance

Some airlines and ticket agents will offer customers either a specific insurance policy or include similar protection with a broader travel insurance product.

The type of protection you have depends on the type of policy taken out. It may simple cover the cost of the original tickets or any unused portion.
