First look around The Refinery - West Bridgford's new £250k cafe bar and restaurant

West Bridgford's newest bar and restaurant The Refinery will be opening on Saturday, May 25, for all day eating and drinks.

Brunch, tapas, pizzas and an extensive choice of wine, beer and cocktails await.

It has been all hands on deck for the last four weeks while the property, in Melton Road, has been gutted as part of a £250,000 refurbishment to create a refined and sophisticated vibe.

The Refinery will throw open the doors - and it has lovely bi-fold doors at the front bringing the outside in - for the first time at noon but usual daily opening will be 9am.

The company behind the Copper Cafe brand are launching the new venue in the former home of Signature Steakhouse, a restaurant and clothing shop, which has stood empty since the property was repossessed last September.

There are some similarities to the Copper menu and some brand new options as well.

Customers can brunch until 4pm on a full breakfast, eggs Benedict, omelettes, smashed avocado on sourdough or pancakes.

Small tapas-style plates for sharing are available from noon with favourites such as sizzling gambas pil pil, meatballs, ham hash cake, and indulgent truffle smoked cheese fondue.

The venue's new pizza oven brings stone-baked pizzas to the table. There's an eight-strong selection from a simple margherita to harissa lamb and a double Italian whammy from pizzas topped with carbonara or bolognaise.

The 92-seater restaurant will also be serving classic mains of fish and chips, burgers, steak and chips and fajitas and on Sundays a full roast will be on the menu.

Kids can tuck into mini pizzas, fish and chips, lasagne or mac 'n' cheese in the plush surroundings with turquoise benches, bold patterned wallpaper, plants, elegant lighting and statement mirrors.

It's ok to pop in for a hot drink, a  smoothie or a glass of wine from a list more extensive than Copper's.

Cocktails come with intriguing and quirky names. Grounds for Divorce is a combo of spiced rum, chocolate, vanilla - and the controversial love it or hate it ingredient - melted Marmite.

Painkiller is described as a 'grown up' Pina Colada, made with gunpowder rum, tropical fruit juice and coconut.

Spokeswoman Alice Carr said: "We wanted to give it a luxurious feel but make it warm and welcoming at the same time.

"It definitely has a touch of luxury with the plush seating and all the nice detail makes it interesting.

"Melton Road does not seem to have too much in the way of food and drink compared to Central Avenue while there are a lot of people who live and work around here.

"The transformation is quite dramatic. They have knocked down a wall where it used to be the fashion shop and that's now our snug.

"The only thing that remains is the bar - everything else has been given a big facelift."

The Refinery will be open from 9am until 11pm in the week and to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
