Dalbeattie is gearing up for its first makers market next month.
Talented crafters and producers will be selling their wares at the parish church hall on March 5.
The first one will be a charity event to raise funds for the church, with organisers Clare Ballott and Linda Fricker in the process of obtaining a business license so it can become a monthly event.
Clare, who lives in the town, said: “We have set it up as Dalbeattie is one of the only local areas without one.
“Colvend has one, Dumfries and Castle Douglas both have one, the list goes on.
“As a crafter myself I just felt it was something we needed.
“The response we have had has been absolutely phenomenal – from crafters, producers and the local community.
“The stall fees from the first one will be going to the church.
“In Dalbeattie there aren’t many big venues and with the Covid regulations we can only have 16 or 17 tables. Linda and I have one and the others went within two days of putting out the call.
“We also have a waiting list for future markets.
“It shows there is a need but I can see why someone hasn’t arranged one before as there is a lot of work involved!”
The market will take place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, March 5, with artists, crafters and food producers setting up stalls.
The church will also be holding a raffle.
There will not be a market in April but it is hoped regular markets will take place on the first Saturday of the month from May if the licence is secured in time.
