Forty firefighters tackled a fire that broke out in a north London children’s arts and crafts shop.

They fought back the blaze at Craft Zone in Oldhill Street, Stamford Hill for more than a hour after being called at 2.45pm on Monday.

Most of the ground floor shop and parts of the first floor flats above were alight when the firefighters arrived on the scene.

There are currently no reports of any injuries.

Station Commander Paul Green, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters tackled a fire at an arts and crafts shop, which also affected a flat above. Thankfully, there are currently no reports of any injuries.

“There was heavy smoke in the area which is now subsiding.

“There are road closures in place and we urge people to avoid the area whilst we continue to work to make the scene safe.”

The Brigade was called at 2.46pm and the fire was under control by 3.49pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
