Fines of £2,500 could be issued to people in Huyton if they refuse order from police

Merseyside police officers have been given the power to hand out fines after an increase of anti-social behaviour and crime in Huyton.

A dispersal order has been put in place around Huyton Village shopping centre following recent crimes being reported.

The order means officers can ask people to leave the area within the zone, or take them home if they're under 16 years old.

Not cooperating with police within a dispersal zone is classed as a criminal offence and carries a maximum fine of £2,500 and three months imprisonment.

The dispersal order will be in place from 5pm today, on Friday, January 21 until Sunday, January 23.

It will be further reviewed by police on Sunday, to see if it needs to be extended into the following week.

In a tweet shared from Merseyside police's Knowsley account, a spokesperson said: "A Dispersal Zone is being introduced in the Huyton Village following recent reports of anti-social behaviour and crime.

"The order starts at 5pm today 21/01/2022 and will remain in place until 5pm on Sunday 23/01/2022 when it will be further reviewed."

A map of the area covered by the dispersal zone shows that Huyton Village shopping centre is included.

Surrounding roads such as Derby Road, Huyton Hey Road, Lathom Road and Huyton Church Road are also within the zone.
