Master of The Coombe Hospital Professor Michael O’Connell welcomed the new arrival today. He said: "We are very pleased to announce the arrival of the first Coombe baby in 2023 at 00.55am this morning.
"Both mother and baby are doing very well and I would like to express my gratitude to the hardworking doctors, midwives and all the associated staff of The Coombe who work to ensure the arrival of, on average, 19 babies every day of the year."
Professor O'Connell said that The Coombe is dedicated to providing "best-in-class care for mothers and babies". He noted how in 2022 they also had to contend with ongoing Covid-19 in the community, a significant cyber attack as well as staffing issues.
Professor O'Connell added: "Our Coombe staff resilience and dedication saw us through it all. We look forward to continuing to provide first class care for mothers and babies in 2023 and I wish baby Nicolas and his loving parents Daniel and Malgorzata and his sisters Emelia (14) Liliana (4) and brother Liam (9) the very best for the future."
Meanwhile, The Rotunda Hospital's first baby of 2023 was baby Laura. Baby Laura was born at 00:47 to her proud mum Anna Gec.
