Fans rage after Netflix crashes as controversial Harry & Meghan documentary series drops

Netflix viewers were outraged today as the streaming platform crashed just as the huge new Harry & Meghan documentary landed.

The first three episodes of the controversial series were set to drop at 8am in the UK, just days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were honoured at the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York City.

Fans were eager to set eyes on the first half of the documentary series which had promised emotional reality TV-style confessionals, unseen photos and a behind-the-scenes look at the couple's private lives.

With bombshells expected throughout, the series - which will net Prince Harry and Meghan $112 million - is predicted to be one of the biggest released by the streaming giants.

But fans struggled to load the show upon its release and quickly let their feeling known on social media.

One angry user wrote: "Looks like #Netflix is crashed/crashing or unable to meet the server demands. #HarryandMeghanNetflix."

Another penned: "Good one Charles! #HarryandMeghanNetflix buffering stalled at 7:01pm ..... we stuck!"

And a third added: "Stuck at 10% loading. It’s too early for this! C’mon Netflix! #HarryandMeghanNetflix."

"My Netflix is stuck buffering at 10% #HarryandMeghanNetflix," another fumed.

Netflix suffered a similar fate minutes into Stranger Things season four's final two episodes being released in July.

Prior to Harry & Meghan's release, Prince Harry was asked the reasons behind sharing their story.

Speaking to People magazine, he said: "No one sees what's happening behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family."

And Netflix described the show as a lens into the secret days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their roles in the institution.

In the initial trailer, an anguished Harry says: "It's really hard to look back on it now and go 'what on Earth happened?"

He went on to claim there's a "hierarchy of the family" as well as the "leaking but also planting of stories".
