The family of Tayla Spies, a 29-year-old Queensland woman who went missing over two months ago, have provided a tragic update, confirming the human remains found near her abandoned vehicle last week belonged to her.
Last week, authorities were called to a rural property at Noorindoo, Queensland on Thursday afternoon after a white Toyota Hilux matching the description of Spies’ car was discovered. The following day, it was reported unidentified human remains were found near the car, with police set to conduct a full forensic examination, per ABC News.
Tayla’s sister Rebecca announced the devastating loss in a Facebook post shared this weekend.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the devastating loss of our beautiful, Tayla,” she wrote on Sunday.
“Although she may no longer be here with us, she will always be in our hearts and I will carry her with me wherever I go.”
The family also thanked the community for their support in the last two months.
“We would like to thank each and every one of you for all of the support and love we have received over the past 63 days and for the ongoing support we will continue to receive going forward,” Rebecca wrote.
“We truly will be forever grateful to our family and friends for surrounding us, supporting us, picking us up when we fell down and for never letting us walk one step of this alone.”
She added: “Tayla was and always will be so incredibly loved, more than she would ever know. Please bear with us as we grieve and navigate through this excruciating loss as a family. Again, from the bottom of our heart, thank you all.”
Tayla, a mother of three, had been missing for over two months, having failed to return to her home in Roma on February 2.
As reported by 9News, her last known movements suggest she spent the first weekend in February in Dalby with her partner, staying at the Windsor Hotel. CCTV footage on Sunday, February 2 captured her in the motel’s carpark.
Police said the couple checked out and left in separate cars.
She was reported missing by her partner on the Monday morning when she did not return home.
Her ute was found on a Noorindoo property, some 40 kilometres north-east of where she was last seen, and the pink shirt she was last seen wearing was found inside the vehicle, per the Brisbane Times.
The ute is now undergoing forensic examination as part of police investigations. Anyone with information regarding the ute or her movements is urged to come forward.
