A family had to be rescued after getting stuck in mud as the tide was coming in.
Coastguards from the RNLI Hoylake, New Brighton and Crosby received reports at around 9pm to a family stuck in mud and cut off by flooding tide on Crosby beach on Monday. The group, which included young children, had been cut off from the shore by the incoming tide and were stick in the soft sand and mud.
A coastguard officer was able to reach the family on the sandbank and one of the children, who was feeling the effects of the cold, had been brought ashore through the water by a member of the public before being passed to coastguard officers. New Brighton Lifeboat reached the remaining members of the family on the bank in the "fading light" and were brought onto a lifeboat.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said the family did not need immediate medical assistance but "were cold". A hovercraft from the Hoylake RNLI then took the casualties to the Mariners Road pathway near Crosby Leisure Centre, where they were passed to the coastguard teams and North West Ambulance Service waiting on the beach.
The hovercraft then stood down as all the family were all reunited and safely ashore. The RNLI is now urging people to be safe on the coast as half-term approaches.
A spokesperson said: "As more people head to the coast over the half-term and Bank Holiday break, the RNLI and Maritime and Coastguard Agency are urging everyone to stay safe and #RespectTheWater."
