Ex-army officer joins Logan Energy to drive expansion plans

Logan Energy has appointed former NATO chief of staff Gary Deakin as head of transformation.

He brings 36 years of experience in leadership and organisational change expertise from his previous position in the British Army as chief of staff of a NATO headquarters in Italy in the rank of major general.

He was responsible for the planning and execution of NATO operations across southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Logan Energy designs, installs and maintains hydrogen energy systems in the UK and internationally.

Deakin's appointment should allow the organisation to scale at pace, in response to demand for hydrogen energy systems such as microgrids and refuelling services for long range electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

He said: “I will guide the company as it moves up a gear and will enable it to meet the demand for our services which increases year-on-year.

“The workforce has doubled in strength in the last year alone, and will continue to grow significantly in size over the next five years, bringing 100 new renewable energy jobs to East Lothian, Scotland and the UK.”

Logan Energy is set to expand its service offering across the UK and overseas, with new facilities at its Wallyford headquarters in East Lothian.

The business also aims to accelerate the development of its proprietary hydrogen technologies.

Bill Ireland, chief executive at Logan Energy, said: “Our aim is to be at the heart of the eco-system of stakeholders, clients, and customers in the renewable energy sector making a difference in the race to net zero.

“Gary’s experience and enthusiasm is unparalleled, and his appointment signals a new era for the organisation as we meet growing demand across the globe to improve the hydrogen energy infrastructure and develop innovative new products vital to our climate change ambitions.”
