Engineers working on gas leak after junction closed in Nottingham

Engineers were called to the scene after a gas leak forced the closure of a busy Nottingham junction on Wednesday morning (January 18).

Road closures were temporarily put in place in around the Valley Road junction with Radford Road and Vernon Road, by the McDonald's in Old Basford on Wednesday morning. They had reopened by 8.25am but the disruptions caused delays with very slow traffic reported.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene. A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: “We received a call at 7.04am to a suspected gas leak at a business premises on Radford Road. Crews from Stockhill, Arnold and Highfields attended. There was a small gas leak located and the incident was handed over to gas engineers. Fire crews left the scene just after 10am.”

A spokesperson for Cadent said: "We have been dealing with a gas escape on a 24” diameter low pressured gas pipe over the past few days, with a lane closure in place on Triumph Road near the junction of Wollaton Road. We expect that the work will be completed by the weekend. We realise the impact this work has had on the local traffic and additional signage has been put into place today, to inform road users of the lane closure and alternative routes to use."
