Emmerdale fans believe they have “worked out” how Charles Anderson will “double cross” Manpreet Sharma after she made a confession to him about sister Meena Jutla.
The vicar paid incarcerated Meena yet another visit during Friday’s instalment of the soap, leaving many fans wondering what his motivations could be for seeking her out, despite also holding a support group for those affected by her crimes.
The vicar has secretly been visiting the killer in scenes reminiscent of Silence of the Lambs, believing he might convince Meena to confess to the murders of Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker.
He hinted he was only seeing her for this reason to Harriet Finch, who warned him to be careful, amid fears he will be manipulated.
But fans already guessed Meena has been up to something, doubtful of her claims that she is seeking God's forgiveness.
On Friday’s hour-long episode, Charles managed to talk Manpreet into admitting how she had covered for local doctor Liam Cavanagh after he pushed Meena from the bridge on the soap last month.
After the fiasco of the support group meeting, Charles sought out Manpreet to clarify Liam’s involvement in Meena’s fall.
He said to Manpreet: “You still haven't answered my question - whether Liam pushed Meena from the bridge,” and she replied: “If you're going to believe her account over mine again, why ask?”
Charles replied: “I need to hear the truth from you. If we keep secrets they'll blow up in our faces like yesterday. I'm not here to judge. Whatever happened, we'll deal with it.”
Manpreet then confessed: “Meena was goading him. Bragging about killed Leanna and it happened in the heat of the moment. Meena drove him to it. His actions were justified and I do not regret lying to the police.”
But several soap fans took to Twitter to theorise the vicar could have ulterior motives for coaxing Manpreet’s confession out of her, with many suggesting he may have hatched a plan to double cross Manpreet after getting close to her sister during the prison visits.
One wrote: “Manpreet don’t tell him , he is gonna go back and tell Meeniac” as another said: “I would not trust Charles.”
A fellow fan wrote: “Charles will grass up Liam for pushing Meena and giving a false statement.”
Another questioned: “Is Charles working for the cops now? Why is he so obsessed with Meena ffs.”
