Emmerdale fans had already sussed Al's real killer, ahead of tonight's shock ending that revealed Kyle as the murderer. Cain had pleaded guilty to the murder of Al earlier in the episode, with fans taking to Twitter to share their initial theories that he was covering for Kyle.
The last few episodes had been hinting at Cain not being Al's killer, even though he was the one in the barn with a shotgun. But, right from the off, fans were never convinced that he was the guilty party - with tonight's real killer being revealed as Cain's son, Kyle.
Viewers had already been sure that little Kyle was the real killer, theorising that he had killed Al to protect his dad. And tonight's episode was feeding into that assumption before the big reveal, featuring a few lingering shots of Kyle looking rather guilty.

In the final scene, Moira sat opposite Cain in the prison visiting room - after he had appeared in the dock - to question why on earth he would plead guilty and secure a life-sentence in prison. He was being very vague about why he needed to do it, but it was clear that he was covering for someone.
Earlier in the episode, Kyle had smashed his mum and dad's bedroom to pieces, seemingly in a moment of devastation at the situation with his dad. Moira told Cain about this, asking him how he thought that pleading guilty would make his son feel.
When she revealed that she was going to get a therapist for Kyle, Cain looked visibly panicked and told her that she cannot do that, because Kyle should not speak to anyone. Just as Moira was going to leave, he revealed that it was Kyle who was Al's real killer - and he needed to keep that to himself.
But fans had already predicted this ending earlier in the episode. @RyanGSoapKing11 said: "The big secret is Kyle killed Al I bet you any money". @JordanPhelps21 said: "I think Kyle shot Al". Allieakalulu66 said: "Anyone else reckon it was Kyle and Cain is covering for him?"

After the big reveal, other fans took to Twitter in disbelief. @meinirann said: "Well I wasn’t expecting that! Hurry up Monday night, I need explanations!" @gatersgirlwales said: "what how what ??? My guess was cover for Aaron or anyone else. @HordleyJeff brilliant soap dad fair play Bravo side note Kyle great shot. (Boo hiss Al)".
