Emmerdale fans have been calling for serial killer Meena Jutla to make her return to the ITV soap this October.
The soap is celebrating its big 50th anniversary later this year, and fans of the show have been speculating whether the evil serial killer - played by Paige Sandhu - would be back to mark the soap's milestone birthday. Meena was last seen on screens back in April time, where she was caught trying to escape from the courthouse and sentenced to 75 years in prison.
She has since remained behind bars, but the impact of her murder spree - which saw her disrupt the whole village with the killings of Andrea Tate, Leanna Cavanagh, Ben Tucker and her friend Nadine and the attempted murder of so many more - still has wide reaching consequences across the Yorkshire Dales as the villagers come to term with what happened.
Actress Paige had previously teased to The Mirror about her possible return to the show.
"I've loved playing Meena and I think she is so manipulative - I wouldn't put it past her twisting him around her little finger or another prison guard or anyone," she said earlier this year, "I think right now she's in prison, she's been in prison, she's living it up, she's going to find her escape room and she's going to come back."
Viewers will remember her prison officer worked with her to try and help her escape, with fans convinced he could play a significant part in her return if she managed to break free from jail.
However, show bosses have poured cold water on the rumours Meena could be making a comeback.
Speaking about the upcoming anniversary celebrations, producer Jane Hudson told Metro about the possibility of Meena making a return to the show: "Once you’ve done a story as big as Meena’s story, you have to know when to bring it to a close.
"I think we played it to its fullest and it was absolutely brilliant, and Paige was absolutely brilliant – and Meena is now behind bars."
Fans though are still hopeful for the character to step back in the sleepy Emmerdale village, and if not they've been begging for her to have her own spin-off series - something which Paige likes the idea of too.
"I would love to have a spin-off! Are you kidding me? I would love to! Someone did a petition for a Meena spin-off. I don't know how well that did. I think if there is a spin-off it would do really well!" she added.
