Eleven-year-old Welsh boy tells Papa Johns how they should be making pizza and they surprise him with delivery

A young boy from Cardiff has impressed leaders at Papa Johns, a renowned pizza delivery company, after he wrote them a letter detailing an innovative new take on pizza that would help kids like him eat their crusts more.

Sam, who is just 11, took it upon himself to tell the company a 'revolutionary' trick they were missing when it came to their pizzas - especially for their younger customers: a sweet and savoury combination pizza.

The letter he wrote them included both the flavour of pizza to be used as the savoury option (cheese and tomato) and a diagram to ensure his idea was well presented - and its content made for a truly compelling case. It read: "Dear Sir/Madam, I have a pizza idea that could revolutionise the pizza industry. Millions of kids love pizza but don't eat the crusts.

"I propose a pizza with a savoury center that you can eat first, and a sweet stuffed crust that you eat after (sic). It's dinner and dessert all in one!

"Nothing like this has been done before and I think loads of people will buy it. Please let me know what you think. Yours sincerely, Sam (aged 11)."

Soon after receiving his letter they did exactly that and the pizza delivery chain got back to Sam, surprising him with a bespoke pizza box that had been crafted and topped with a hand-drawn illustration of the sweet and savoury pizza Sam had drawn in the letter. The box also had a small tweak to its original name to honour the young lad - rather than Papa Johns, it was renamed on this occasion as ‘Papa Sams’.

Alongside this lovely surprise, Sam's idea will be trialled at the pizza delivery company's innovation kitchen - watch this space.

Speaking about this adorable gesture, Georgina Howes, head of research and development at Papa Johns, said: "We always love to hear from our customers, especially when they have revolutionary ideas to share with us. We know that pizza crusts are sometimes left behind, so suggesting a savoury pizza with a sweet crust is some seriously outside the (pizza) box thinking."

Soon after Sam received his special pizza delivery, his family took to Twitter to share what had happened with the world and wrote: "Amazing bespoke pizza delivery from @PapaJohnsUK So kind of them!"
