The Western General Hospital is set to see a brand new addition as plans are approved for an extension.
Located in the north of the city, the hospital is to be granted permission for a new office and research facility this week.
A meeting of the Development Management sub-committee on Wednesday (October 6) will officially confirm the decision, which will see a large new development constructed on the grounds.

According to the proposals, the site will be located on the north-east corner of the hospital, and will be part of an extension to the existing Systems Medicine building that is run by the University of Edinburgh.
Set over five-stores, the building will include an expansion of the current laboratories, as well as cell offices and meeting room spaces.
As well as working space, the ground floor will also see a replacement cycle store as well as some additional cycle store space for visitors.
The current stone wall on the edge of the hospital corner will be taken down as well as the landscaped area behind it, however these will both be replaced when the new building is finished.

In a planning review by the council, a report stated that the application should be granted, with the site not infringing on any environmental or transport issues.
The report added: "The proposal is of a high standard of design that in scale, form and materials is compatible with the existing building and character of the local environment.
"The proposal does not have an unreasonable impact on the amenity of neighbouring residents and encourages reduced reliance on car usage and promotes sustainable modes of transport through appropriately designed cycle provision.
"No specific road or pedestrian safety issues will occur as a result."
