Edinburgh Toby Carvery set for huge makeover including al fresco dining

An Edinburgh Toby Carvery could be set for a huge makeover with the addition of new outdoor seating.

The eatery, on St John's Road, Corstorphine, have submitted proposals to the council's planning team which would see several changes to both the interior and exterior of the building.

There would be additional eating and drinking spaces within the restaurant while also preserving the historic C-Listed building. Among the list of proposed external changes, a new car park layout and lighting system would take shape, while the hotel lobby would be completely refurbished and new flooring would be laid on the inside.

In a planning statement, the architect wrote: "The proposed additions and alterations aim to improve the current offer provided at the public house and enhance the vibrancy on offer at the successful business premise within Edinburgh. The indoor and outdoor seating at the application site will be improved, which will offer enhanced choice and comfort for patrons of the property. The number of covers will increase from 202 to 210.

"Following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality sector, the proposals would seek to maintain and enhance the current offer provided by providing additional internal and external seating, aiding in meeting current demands and therefore supporting economic growth."

It is unclear whether the venue would be forced to close while the majority of the work is carried out. However, the statement continues: "In terms of the principle of development on site, the proposals will not result in the loss or negatively impact upon the functioning of the pub, rather it will provide a much-needed refresh of the exterior and interior of the building and grounds.

"The proposal will improve the current offer provided and represent a significant investment in the building."
