The highly anticipated Mowgli Street Food is set to open in Edinburgh and hungry locals have been issued an update.
It was announced back in 2022 that Edinburgh would be home to the popular Indian restaurant after they branched out in Glasgow. While there is not a set date for opening on Hanover Street, Mowgli Street Food has given locals a sneak peek of the stunning traditional building.
Posting on social media, they said they aim to open in the late spring this year. Locals will be able to enjoy dishes inspired by the way Indians eat from home with a menu by the founder, former barrister, food writer and chef Nisha Katona MBE.

The Edinburgh eatery will be the next to open up and join 14 sister restaurants across the UK. It has a distinctive jungle theme and now has given a sneak peak into what it has in store for Edinburgh.
Mowgli Street Food said: "Mowgli Edinburgh planning meeting! Thought I would share with you the unbelievably beautiful building of which we become a respectful trustee. Cannot wait to do her justice and take our food to such a fabulous city. Now for the fun bit designing her up. We aim to open late spring 23 so we need to crack on!"
Nisha, Founder and CEO, previously shared that she would be adding palm trees to the interior's to continue her jungle theme.
Speaking about the Edinburgh location last year, the chef said: “It is everything I want Mowgli to be, a very grand old space with wooden panels and decorated glass domes, into which our monkey will slink and grow organically - There are many old buildings like this in India from a bygone era into which life and trees and food markets sneak and grow respectfully, exotically.
"To honour this stunning building, we will bring trees and lanterns, branches and ropes with our chat bombs and cheese toast.”
"I want to create a place that feels like a home from home, that pleases like-minded people – my family dishes, a warm pet welcome and Tolkien trees.”
She adds: “It is therapy to me to watch my fantastically big-hearted guests behave as though they are hanging out in their own living room. We are not by any means everyone’s cup of tea, but we will be there for you if you need us.”
