Edinburgh Krispy Kreme diners elated after spotting little known 'hack' in store

Two women were left super excited after they figured out a seemingly unknown Krispy Kreme hack in Edinburgh’s city centre.

TikTok user ‘orilatapy’ was filmed with a friend visiting the new Krispy Kreme store in the capital's new retail centre - St James Quarter.

The video was titled ‘Go and get your free donuts when the Krispy Kreme logo is red.’

The excitable pair noticed that a red sign was outside of the infamous doughnut chain and pondered whether the rumour was true, that if that bright red sign was showing, then it meant you could get free doughnuts.

They gallivanted into the store and quizzed the friendly member of staff situated behind the till.

‘Orilatapy’ asked: “Hey, can I ask you a question? Is it true that when the logo is red you can get free donuts?”

The Krispy Kreme employee responded: “Oh yeh, you can go get one.”

The pair erupted in response: “It’s REAL?!”

Although there is some confusion, as an article published by Food & Wine in 2019 states that the communications department at the American chain shot down the suggestion that the red light means a free donut.

They said at the time: “The Hot Light signals that donuts are hot and fresh coming off the line, not a free donut. Some shops sometimes offer samples, but that isn't dependent on the Hot Light being on."

If you are ever passing a Krispy Kreme store in Edinburgh or when on your travels elsewhere, and the sign is red, let us know if you were able to grab a free ring of delicious goodness.
