East Lothian park transformed into historic camp site for 'Outlander filming'

An East Lothian country park has been seen transformed into a filming set, and has taken a serious jump back in time.

Local residents near Dunbar were quick to spot the unusual taped off camp inside the John Muir Country Park, just along the road from Dunbar and West Barns.

Captured on camera on Sunday (April 10), a huge clearing in the wooded area had been created, with a series of identical old fashioned tents in rows.

Showing the time period it is set in, the scene also included horse drawn carts with bags of what appear to be sand or grain, as well as some more modern tables housing what appear to be small props.

Cordoned off with tape, there appeared to be no cast or crew at the set, however a number of locals claimed the set is for Scottish period drama Outlander.

A huge hit internationally, the historical drama has now begun filming its seventh season, with the show following Scotland's history from the Highland clearances.

Starring Hollywood actor Sam Heughan, the series has also been seen shooting in Fife in recent weeks, with fans eagerly awaiting the next instalment of the story.

However, the park is not the only location in Edinburgh and the Lothians to have been transformed into a set in recent days, with Edinburgh city centre also being put into the spotlight.

On Sunday, an area of Waverley Station was turned into Paddington station in London for the set of new film 'Borderland', with Calton Road also decorated with 1970s cars and advertisements.

Using a small explosion for one of the scenes, the Edinburgh Council has pre-warned locals that the cloud of dust and possible sounds of gunfire were nothing to be alarmed at.
